I sent off some applications over the weekend for IT support/admin positions and today I had 2 agencies get back to me.

This is one of the jobs that I got called back on:

    IT Support/Administrator - Cheshire/Manchester
An expanding marketing business require a IT Support/Administrator who will be responsible for Manning the IT Helpdesk on a day-to-day basis, taking and logging all calls, distributing jobs, providing technical support and advice to staff and students on hardware and software issues. Ideally you will have good interpersonal skills, some basic IT/1st line Support/Helpdesk experience with a strong customer focus. You will be a self motivator with the initiative to make progress without close supervision and able to maintain effectiveness under pressure when faces with rapidly shifting priorities. The salary is dependant on experience between £15,000-£20,000 plus benefits. For further information please contact Denise Marsden.

Dunno got to call her back, all she wanted to know was about how far away I was. She left me a message on my mobile this afternoon, only got the message tonight, because I had to top up my mobile.

I spoke to the agency, they looked at my CV and thought it was too technical for the position they are offering. I did debate the point that I didn't mind what the position entailed as it would restart my IT career again, so the lady I spoke to then decided to hand it to her colleague for consideration.

It would be a 78 mile trip there and a 78 mile trip back, I said I didn't mind the long commute.

So I'll see what happens tomorrow. Also got to call the other agency back tomorrow.

Wow! a 78 mile commute one way. That's huge. I understand that you have to bite the bullet sometimes to get the career jump started again. Quite a twist that your CV is *too* technical. Usually it's the other way around. Good luck.

Is that not what we advise people against of here - going for a entry level job with a MCSE - can look odd? :dry

That's what I keep warning people about... and there are just some people who absolutely will not listen to that advice. Not speaking of Wiz... but rather, folks who get mid-to-upper-level certs with no experience.

Yeah, me and my big mouth. 8)

Problem is... people don't listen because it's something that they simply don't want to hear... they don't want to believe it's true. Honestly, I'm trying to help them with their career... just wish they'd see that.

I think once people get an idea in their head it doesn't matter what you tell them or advise them, they'll do it their way.

Its like when a parent keeps saying to their kids don't do that don't do that they'll go and do it anyway.

Its a human failing only some people will take advice and criticism if its bad or good.
