It's time for me to say goodbye to CF!

I decided not to do A+ because my girlfriend thinks its a waste of time and because like she say’s I am already in the job I was doing it for? Therefore I will have more quality time for her, and save loads of money!

I have had a lot on my plate lately with 3 jobs on the go and lot's of house problems and family problems, funerals & sh$t! also trying to balance everything!

Good luck to all the members at CF with their studies and a BIG thank you to the following for all your advice and reply's.

Familly first fella. It's a shame you won't be taking your certs, but that could (and probably will) change as things settle down around you.Goodbye? That's too final.Bon Voyage is a little more apt.Take good care of yourself and those around you and we'll speak again when the time is right.

I've commented to your post on this on TU. I'm sorry to see you take a temporary departure (as I'm sure that it *will* be temporary :biggrin ) while you get yourself sorted.

I'm of the opinion that you should take the longer view, and not abandon the certs.

I'll await your triumphant return - in the meantime - the best of luck!

    Harry.

    Bonjour mate.

It is my belief that the thinking behind this statement is fundamentally flawed..

Certs are best attained by people that 'are' doing the job. It is a way of adding theory to the practice. In the eyes of future employers one without the other is not as good as having the two combined.

Having said that, you should always reserve ample quality time to spend with your good lady. Studying does not compensate for that kind of hands on experience :biggrin

Bluerinse is right, the thinking is flawed. Your gf sounds like an immature, selfish, and insecure little girl. I hope she does not wreck your future in IT.

You know that this forum will always be here to help you get back on track when you have the time to devote to your career!

Good luck, my young friend. However, as Bluerinse stated and mary reinforced, don't let a member of the opposite sex, who is *not* your spouse (and therefore, doesn't necessarily have YOUR best interests at heart), steer your way through the beginnings of a career. Unless this is the future Mrs. Monkey, I'd seriously reconsider your decision. Historically, many a bad decision has been made over the BF/GF, and in hindsight, you may end up kicking yourself.

However, if she *is* the future Mrs. Monkey, then a serious red flag should be waving. Like mitzs stated over at T-U, any 'better half' would do nothing short of losing a body part over supporting the other's dreams and desires. To a couple truly involved, these are not sacrifices, but just something that needs to be done for the other person. Personally, my wife is in a career she *loves*, and it takes her from me 2 or more days a week. Is that sacrifice? For me, yeah, but I'd have it no other way. Her happiness is my primary concern, period.

Just make sure that where you hang your hat (so to speak) is *really* worth it. Guys are notoriously thick-headed when it comes to women, and although my wife is a God-send, my life would be a lot different if I'd stayed on track. Unfortunately, it was the short-term girlfriends that made me stray, instead of going to college with the possibility of playing pro ball. Now, because of a few girls (and other unhealthy activities), I'll always say "what if?"

Clarification: I'd do the same thing over again, if that meant I'd have the wife I have now.

One more thought. Nobody, lying on their deathbed, ever said "I wish I worked more", or "I should have taken that A+". Life is not a race to the end. It's not even about how much crap you have. It is very much about the relationships you have along the way. If you've been dealing with funerals, then you know that nothing is guaranteed, and God can call your number at any time. Seek out those relationships, the real raison d'etre (ugh, high school french!), but make absolutely sure the ones you make are quality, and worthy of your time. Peace!

Hope that life treats you well and one day you return to CF and certification if you decide IT is for you.

It’s interesting that a few members have highlighted the lack of support from your gf. Personally I think having the cert and the work experience is the best combination, not ‘I have the job’ therefore ‘I don’t need the cert’ attitude. :ohmy

2 years is ages mate. Why not aim for the New Year instead? Fresh start and all that... 8)
