Goals for 2014

    Well it's that time of the year again when we all say what we want to achieve for the upcoming year (regardless of whether or not we do it, but positive thinking and all of that...).

    I'll start...

    Gain my Microsoft Certified Educator (MCE) cert
    Gain a project management cert, maybe the Project+
    Complete my PGCert in Technology Management (first 1/3 of my MSc)

    And...

    Gain my black belt (chodan) in Tang Soo Do, if I fail it next month :S

    Who is next?...

    Hmm more of the same for me. Trusting I don't become a best-selling author ;)

    - complete MCSE 2012 (in server infrastructure)
    - also pick up a project cert - more likely to be Prince2
    - do some VMware exams. Looking at the VCP Cloud or the VCP5-DT

    The writing will continue. Looking to release a book of zombie shorts and the sequel to book one of the Graces in 2014.

    Took a look at the prince2 foundation cert and it costs about £90 more for the exam :(. If work was paying then I'd do it, but they ain't...

    Going to dive into security after I complete my CCNP but not sure if it will involve any certs.
    Also, I need to get into DNS and would like to do the Hurricane Electric IPv6 online cert, just for the fun of it.

    I am going to work on three major certs in 2014.

    1. VCAP5-DCA
    2. VCAP5-DCD
    3. EMCCA

    If time permits, I'll try and upgrade the MCITP to MCSE.

    Going to go easy on myself this time:

    1- Complete the MCSA 2008
    2- Move countries from Canada back to the UK (I have a 6 month contract possibility lined up)
    3- Get a permanent job with a starting time line around Feb 2015.

    It's November.... ask me in January, actually make that Feburary :). Thinking about it shouldn't we be having a thread to admit how we failed to hit our 2013 goals first... or is that just me? :) or did I miss that.

    Seeing as I've failed miserably with this years goal I'm still going to be slogging through the 2012 MCSA but....

    I'm also working on my Linux skills so may look at a cert in that area and possibly something security related.

    Also buying a house.

    2014 goals, probably finish my MCSE as this is looking increasingly impossible before Christmas.

    Upgrade my VCP from 4 to 5.

    Travel a lot more next year, more family holidays, more weekend breaks, more lads holidays.

    Will need to get a cert plan sorted out but this year has been fairly successful from a career point of view so can’t complain too much.

    In regard to certs I can’t even remember the last one I did!

    Targets for next year:

    ITIL, CCENT/CCNA. Not sure on what else if any. I have recently started an Open University Computing degree, so extra study time is going to be quite scarce I imagine.

    Will try and achieve my VCAP-DCA which will be difficult as I don't administrate vSphere.

    Then perhaps with a fair wind I might think about trying to join the most elite certificate club VCDX (article from The Register)

    Fair enough I look forward to confessing my 'postponements' ;).

    That's slightly different :).

    I have a REALLY busy end of the year coming with potentially up to 5 exams and a house move to complete. Whatever doesn't happen gets postponed so I'll wait until nearer x-mas and see I think.

    Since the last time I actively did the "goals" thread I achieved most of them, I'll be chiming in again. For 2014:

    CCENT renewal
    CCNA
    CCA - AD
    TOGAF
    Probably some Microsoft Tracks...
    I have a goal of a more structured blogging and maybe even podcasting.
    ...and I'd love to actually make some headway in finishing my writing attempts.
