    Hi everybody, new member here.

I was wondering if anyone could give me some pointer on where to get started, I already have an HND in computing (although no work experience) and was thinking of going for the MCDST as i have seen several employers asking for it. Is this a good qualifaction to start with or is there a better starting point.

Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

    Hi Gaz

I also have a HND in computing and no experience. I would recommend that you do A+ the N+ then the MCDST even though the A+ and N+ may go over somethings you have already learned they will also teach you things you haven't.

And if you decide to go for the MCSA in the future the A+ and N+ counts towards one of the electives for it.

To do the A+ I recommend getting compTIA A+ all in one exam guide 6th edition by Mike Meyers and PC Technician street smarts by James Pyles. An old PC woulf help too.

There is no need to do a course, just get the books practice & learn the concepts then take the exams.

The A+ and N+ will set you up nicely for the MCDST.

    Welcome to CF :)

    Welcome to the forums...
I agree with GBL’s comments above.
Unless you are in a unique position and are adequately prepared for the MCDST, go for the A+ route first.

The A+ and N+ would certainly help, but the MCDST is effectively an entry level cert and could be tackled with little prior experience. In my opinion of course. :)
