When you looking for your favourite book at a good price there are plenty of places to look so how about putting our heads together and we come up with a list of online bookshops so when we looking for books we can compare prices and make it easier to find a bargin!

PS if we could stick to sites with international shipping so we can all benefit!

I've purchased a couple of times from Computer Manuals.

    http://www.compman.co.uk/

Free standard delivery in the UK, and they do ship worldwide.

Have so far found service to be excellent, and prices very keen.

They often have good promotions and email coupons too.

I use half.com for most books. They are much cheaper, you have a choice between used or new.

    Check it out.

I think that the vast majority of people in the UK have a single prefered place, and that is Amazon.

After going to Amazon to check it out I'll head to other places such as Play to see if it's any cheaper, but amazon is always first choice for me.

I quite often go to amazon.co.uk and get the ISBN code for the book.
Then go to www.bookbrain.co.uk and use the ISBN code to search a load of book stores automatically.

i agree that compman is really good - fast and books arrive strangely packed! ebay can be pretty good too, but P&P can be a bit of a stinger.

the one i'd recommend to avoid is blackwell - any time i've ordered books they've taken weeks to arrive (one took 6 months).

    Hi All,

Try www.computerbooks.co.uk they have a good range and I think the prices compare.

I also use Amazon for stuff not available in the UK

I'll throw mine in here too, hope it's of use to anyone visiting this forum!

    1. In Grand Cayman you can use the 'Book Nook' store on West Bay Road. They have a small and not particularly varied selection of books for self study etc in stock.

The great thing about this store though is they will order anything you want from Amazon.com (not just books either) or any other online store and charge you the same cost in CI$ as the US$ price. They just add on a small charge for ordering it in to cover the import charges. You can pay a charge and have the order within a week (very expensive) or pay the price of the order and it should arrive within 2 and a half weeks. The staff are very friendly and helpful too. Highly recommend this store.

    2. Books & Books located at Camana Bay. This is a brand new store on the island. It's lousy for computer books though as they simply don't carry them. They can order in books by request from their warehouse in the USA or from any online source. This is the same as the Book Nook except they charge you more and it takes 3 weeks to arrive. I wouldn't really recommend this store right now as it's a bit pricey, but use it as a comparative just incase (aka: shop around).

    3. Hobbies & Books. Not had any experience with this company yet, maybe someone else can provide details for this store?

aaaaand this week's 'Lazarus' award for resurrecting old threads goes to... :D

Seriously - if we're talking about online, then I generally use Amazon or FleaBay. However, I'm probably a bit more old-fashioned than most on here (with the possible exception of Harry!) so I don't think you can beat bricks and mortar bookshops. For that, I'm afraid to say to all you non-Londoners out there, it begins and ends with Foyles in Charing Cross Road. Six floors of textbooky goodness! There used to be a dedicated computer bookshop in Sicilian Avenue, just off of Holborn in the city, but that closed down about four years ago.
