    Hello All,

I am having really irritating problems with my external DVD drive. First it would not get detected by my PC - so i had to delete UpperFillter value in RegEdit.

That had fixed that. But now, i am trying to burn DVDs but my DVD drive will not read DVD disks - only reads empty CDs or a data disk i had made elsewhere.

Has any one had this problem or is there any thing anyone can recommend?

    Cheers!!

What is this DVD drive thing you talk of? Is it like the old 8 Track??

In all honesty tho, what is it you're trying to burn to DVD because these days most OS's will read an ISO file natively just fine. I haven't actually burnt anything to disk in quite literally years.

To be honest, unless you're burning music or movies for your CD players/DVD players, take a look at the Zalman Drive especially if you're going to be booting off the iso's.

Apart from that, the only issues I've come across is when the external (or internal) drive will not read DVD's only CD's. When that happened, I just replaced the drive. It's not out of the realms of impossibility that the drive is faulty.

Another question for you... Are you using Windows own inbuilt in burning or a 3rd party app?

    Hello,

No, i am using 3rd party software. As i do not think windows 8.1 has anything pre-installed. Apart WMP.
Also, The Zalmans Drive sounds like a good idea. Would this work with my blu-ray player? Like trick the player that its a DVD when i plug it in its USB port. Or does it not work.. sounds like a long shot when i read it back to myself.

    Cheers :)

No it is a standard DVD drive. tbh the reason is because my blu-ray palyer is the easiest way to watch movies on my big screen ..

So either get a Roku and run Plex or use a USB key, most modern TV's have a USB socket on them for exactly that reason, better still if you have a PS3\4 or Xbox you also have the Plex client available to them now as well.

Yes thank you. I could use something like that. However, my DVDs are sent from abroad.. I could just have a long HDMI cable running from my on board graphics card to my TV.

£4 HDMI 5 meter cable, lol.. Love eBay.

    Cheers
