    Hi guys

I was just looking at bookpool.com and was wondering if someone who has bought books from a USA site what is the rate of VAT charged on books bought from the US and brought into the EU? Its bound to be the same for cyprus as well as the UK? :blink

    hi zimbo,

As far as i am aware it is down to the customs in your country. I have heard of people in the UK getting stuff and not being charged (over the £18 limit) and others billed for stuff just over....

At a guess i would say maximum of 25%

Let us know if you find out for defo...:thumbleft

Just curious, zimbo...what book or books are you looking to buy at Bookpool that you can't get more locally?

I doubt Zimbo can find many IT related books in Nicosia Trip. It would probably be hard to find anything other than history books or tourism maps :biggrin

Actually Pete, I was thinking he'd be buying from vendors in Europe or the UK. I would think that he might have an easier time buying from amazon.co.uk than Bookpool (and having said that, Bookpool is one of my favorite sites).

Although you can't beat having a brand new book (as well as the Author being paid for his/her hard work) you sometimes get books for bargain prices on ebay. The only problem being it has to be a bargain before the postage takes over.......

well look at it this way...

    Amazon.com: Book+ DHL = $60 which is 30 quid
    Amazon.co.uk: Bookk+ DHL = 55 quid which is 49 quid...

so i can save 20 cypriot quid on a book then if its 5% VAT im looking another 5 quid VAT... so its worth it with the cypriot pound to buy from the US!
