After a brief google i see you can possibly enable RDP remotely through regedit/"connect network registry" and tweak the registry etc. as long as the remote PC is not behind a router and you know the remote PC ip.

What is the deal with this, isn't this a major security hole, or has it been patched.

Any other ways to enable RDP remotely if you know the ip?

It's not security hole, because you need a user account with admin rights on the remote machine.

Got me out of a jam on a few occasions this - usually after setting up a new server on a remote site, then getting 50 miles down the motorway before realising I haven't enabled RDP on the box...
