Or 'ello in here, whichever viewpoint you wish to take :D

Thought I'd stick my head up above the rim of the books and say hi, 'ello and all that. Found the site today whilst Googleing to compare various certs etc and it seems I've managed to find an active forum that might be of some use.

Little bit of background; I'm a Systems/Network/Desktop/Tea Boy [delete as appropriate] Administrator/Engineer/Technician [rinse and repeat] who started commercially in IT in 2003 after uni but have been poking/building/upgrading computers for about 15 years and I have worrying tendancy to document everything. Currently I'm in Canada with my wife for year on a work visa but we call Cumbria in the north of England home.

In terms of career and experience I've mainly been involved in small business planning/installation/support but I've recently had exposure to a larger (35 servers & ~1000 clients) setup in some contract work I did for a college.

Certifications wise I'm currently MCP'd in Server 2003 (70-290), have completed the other three core courses of the MCSE track as part of a Certificate in Microsoft Technologies from Lancaster University and am a MBCS.

I've found that although I've got six years experience in the industry I've neglected to complete a few of the basic certs that I'm now finding listed as requirements in job ads over here so I'm ticking a few boxes by aiming to complete a few this year with the longer term intention of upgrading to the newer MS certs and looking at the security side of things whilst also expanding my KB in to the world of Macs (parents now running them so need to know how to fix :blink ) and Linux etc - and breath!

    So, CPD in summary:

Short Term (this year) - A+, Network+, Security+, 70-291, 70-680 (which then finishes the MCSA track), ACSP

Longer Term (12-24 months) - MCSA ---Upgrade--> MCITP 2008 Enterprise Admin, SQL, Sharepoint, Exchange, Virtualisation Technologies

Even Longer than Long Term (24 months+) - CEH, CITP from the BCS

Hopefully somewhere muddled in with all that I'll find some temp/contract/part-time work over here in Canada. My wife's got a job so income is sorted which handily gives me some time to catch up on the certs and do some work too fingers crossed, just hoping I can wiggle some money out of her for a larger hdd for the lappy and a ML110 G6 VM test server.

Anyways thats me, my names Greg, and yes, I do make a damn good cuppa tea!
