    Guys

Just messing around with network places to learn, and noticed that on my pc at home the NIC doesn't seem to be being used.

Am I right in thinking an ADSL modem doesn't need to connect to the NIC then ? but a router would right ?

If you have a USB modem then it wont connect to the RJ45 port on the NIC, so no the NIC wont be used by the modem.

If you have a router then you will probably connect to it through CAT5 on the NIC. 8)

Spot on, a modem will usually connect to your USB port whilst a router will use an ethernet cable to connect to your NIC.

If you also have a wireless adaptor connecting to a wireless router that will be USB based so the NIC will be free again..

    Cheers..
