Do you have to pass both exams 601 and 602 seperately, or is it a combined score between the two?

What happens if you passed one of them and not the other?

So it is about a 75% pass mark for both 601 and 602?

You have to pass both tests individually to become A+ certified. Not sure, but I think minimum passing score is around 675, again individually.

    Good luck.

    You have to pass both.

PAssing score for essentials is 675 (100 questions)and passing score for the elective is 700 (90questions).

Just to point out as well, from what I understand, the passing score of 675 doesn't equate to 75/100 questions, as some are worth more points than others. Although, I may be mistaken and I'm sure someone will correct me :)

Nobody knows for sure but it is genrally thought of this way with all certs. Apparently on some Microsoft exams people have failed although they have passed the 700 passing mark this maybe the same for compTIA too. I would say aslong as you are getting 80-85% in practice exams then you should be ok.

It's an 800 point spread, so you get your first 100 points just for turning up. Don't ask me why, seems to be an American thing. That makes the pass mark 575/800, which is roughly 72%. You are right that the questions are weighted. A tricky troubleshooting scenario is obviously worth more than remembering what the max speed of 802.11g is.
There's also beta questions, which are not counted in your final score (e.g., the Vista ones everyone seems to be worrying about).

Yeah, but it's not counted. You could get them all wrong and it wouldn't affect your score one bit.

I take it the 220-301 "hardware" exam has been phased out, i saw a referene to it but never heard of it before that?

Out of 220-601 and 220-602 which is the hardware exam?

You don't have to worry about that, the 301 exam was for the 2003 edition of the A+. It's hard to say which one is the "hardware" exam as from the 2006 edition of the A+, they did away with the "hardware" & "software" exams and developed the "essentials" & "job role" exams.

601 is called is essentials, 602 is called IT Technician which is more like the hardware exam then there's the 603 which is helpdesk technician and 604 depot technician.

Which study materials are you using? the ones I have seen explain this at the front especially the Mike Meyers AIO
