Having a problem at the moment trying to install DirectX. As I don't have an internet connection at home, I have had to download it onto disk and try and install it that way. It goes through the motions and says it has installed successfully but when I check to see using dxdiag.exe, I am informed that the older version is still present and it hasn't upgraded. I need it for a program called DVDx which will not run properly unless at least 8.1 is installed.

The OS I am running is W2K Server.

    Cheers.

I experienced similar probs before, when Windows spat out a DirectX upgrade, but can't remember how I solved it.

Have you tried re-booting, then trying dxdiag again ?

Probably a stupid question but have you downloaded the specific update for "distributed" updates from the catalouge site?

BTW the Current Direct X version is 9.something
