    Hi all,

My dell laptop is playing up a bit. Its running Vista as an OS. It boots ok, gets to the windows loading bar fine aswell, but after the loading bar stops a command prompt box pops up with ( C:windows\system32). Im guessing that windows cannot find the system 32 folder and is asking me to point it in the right direction? I have tried a system repair using the DVD but this didnt seem to work :(

    any other suggestions?

    thanks in advance

Have you tried running system restore?

Try getting into System Recovery Console via your Vista DVD and do a "CHKDSK".

Insert and boot from your Windows XP CD.
At the first R=Repair option, press the R key
Press the number that corresponds to the correct location for the installation
    Typically this will be #1
Enter in the administrator password when requested
    cd \windows\system32\config
Depending on which section was corrupted:
ren software software.bad or ren system system.bad
    Depending which section was corrupted
    copy \windows\repair\system
    then exit

Have you tried to start the Windows in safe mode? If it starts, you can restore your system to an earlier date. That should resolve the problem. If there is no restore point set, you can try removing some of the drivers and software you've installed during the last couple of days when your system worked fine.
