how well do you need to know them commands for the 70-290 exam? I use csvde at work to export and import information with boolean variables... I just wanted to know about this because you could spend days and days learning and practicing every little bit of the csvde, ldife dsadd, dsget etc... commands.

You need to know what you can do with those commands. What you can do with csvde and not with ldifde and visa versa. You do not need to know every switch of the dsadd like commands. The most used would be nice.
