I brought a domain the other day and have just hashed together the first four pages.

Don't worry about how quickly the pages load right now, as I can always pay some more wonga for a better hosted solution.

Let me know what you think so far ArcusIT

Nice one mate, I think we should all start plugging our own websites 8)

I'm thinking about starting up a IT Support comany next year some time to bring in some extra dosh, for home users and small businesses.

Anyways, watch this space, as I need to think of content!

The page you have up right now actually loads faster than I expected it might (due to my location). Good work. :)

    Who you hosting with?

I have 5 domain names now. Just registered one for our wedding website. Other than that the rest are just redirects until I get to the day where I actually have more than 2 minutes to spend on designing/coding them!

It's just hosted with GoDaddy on the cheapest rate they offer (not that I'm tight lol).

I like tinkering around, I actually put the site together using MS Publisher 2007.

http://themeforest.net Here you go mate, may be of use, you can buy full website templates for about $15 or so, may give you a bit of a hand. You can edit and use them as you wish, all really high quality ones. I use one of them I heavily edited for my portfolio. A really helpful site.

Just wondering why you have an apple as the main image on your page. Not a secret mac lover are you?

BTW, that source code makes my brain hurt. You could achieve the same thing for a fraction of the bytes coding it by hand. I'd go down this route before parting with more cash if you want faster uploads.

Not one of your best ideas.

The first time I access the site it's okay, then I click on one of the buttons and it breaks (and the same for all).

It splits into a double page with google ads on the left and yours on the right. I'm using IE 8 and I tried it also in compatability mode too with the same result.

Nah, I just liked the picture when I was randomly thinking of what to put there.

The source code is crap, however, I'm not a programmer, so what I shall do is get the site finished and then use DreamWeaver to clean it up.

I like it - it's nice and clean, a good start!

My only niggle is that I have to scroll sideways to see it all, which is something you want to avoid.
    Bit of dynamic resizing maybe?

If I knew how to do that mate, I would.

Think I need to build the site then get a Web dude to give it some love :D

Pah, it's not that bad - just stop using Publisher for an instant boost :p

As for the dynamic resizing, you need to use div tags.

Three ways you could do it:-

    • Either split it into tables, and specify the width/heigh using percentages (easier)
    • Use frames
    • Or use css to create dynamic div's and reference to the style sheet in your page

The latter will give you far greater flexibility.

You never messed around with HTML?

Cheers for that mate, no I have never messed around with HTML.

Never felt the need really, it's not something I would ever get involved in as it doesn't float me boat.

I'd only recommend option 3 here.
Good code is easily maintainable and flexible. Anything else becomes a liability somewhere down the line.
