The link below was created entirely with FOSS products. No proprietary technology was used at all.

    So?:blink

Wouldn't it be useful to know what products were used to make this film?

It states Maya and proprietary apps were used and maya a computer aided Animation Software like 4d cinema and Studio max (which was used in things like the last star fighter, star wars and bugs. However unlike 4D cinema and studiomax Maya is free.

    What is Maya

Where can I download this free bit of cool software?

    What is 4D cinema?

    What is StudioMAx?

This project was done by the Blender Foundation, a FOSS project that licenses all its software under the GPL, and its movies under the Creative
Commons license. And, you are mistaken if you think any proprietary software was made in using it.

Here is the Wiki page on the Big Buck Bunny project.

As to your "so?" qestion I posted this because I want people to see just how far and how fast FOSS software development is moving. As far as I'm concerned the animation in this is just as well done technically as anything Pixar puts out.

BTW, if anyone is interested you can download 720p and 1080p versions of this that have surround sound included in them from the bigbuckbunny.org web site.

The high def versions are pretty nice looking.
