A month or so ago a pal of mine suggested that his mobo might have gone pop.

He relies on it for his business (coding) and fled out to buy some more guts for his case.

After a bit of thought (ok a coupla pints of Directors finest) I was moved to ring him and ask what he'd done with the offender.

So I got it for nowt. No memory, but CPU (P4, 3.0ghz socket 478 + fan) intact. Not cutting edge, but I've been posting here with an old P3 and the hamster is getting on (I'm now resting its remaining three legs).

So, to cut a long story and all that, I got a mobo (same model)from ebay, mated them, liberated a P4 PSU from a wreck somewhere 'near' where I work, scrounged an ATX case from a pal who was having a clear out, and scored 512 (matched 256s)of Kingston DDR400 from ebay.

    Total cost?

    £46.63.

    Beat that without stealing!

    Nice one mate :biggrin

    Actually I can....

My old boss: Sparky I’m making you redundant.
Me: Oh no, it’s the end of the world!! (not really)
My old boss: Is there anything I can do?
Me: Hmmm, well can I have those three old dell servers and Cisco switch as well as my redundancy money?
    My old boss: Ok then.

Yours is a better story though! :tongue

Yup! I should really post a picture of my home LAN, its got more servers than some small businesses do! 8)

The gf is being too understanding about me taking over the ‘office’ and making it a ‘server room’, I sense some decorating might be on the cards! :biggrin
