All this talk of Gatherings was making me think and, after a long lie down in a darkened room, I had an idea.

What would you guys think about a CF conference? Rather than just meeting up for a piss-up one evening, meet up for a full day or so (with piss-ups in the evening), where we can have some 'educational' (shudder) stuff.

For instance, we could have Freddie giving a demonstration on L*nux or some such, Phoenix giving some sort of talk on Networking, etc. Perhaps a period of time on one or two of the more popular courses, either a 'lead' class, or just a discussion time, where people could suggest an area they were having difficulty with, and everyone could discuss the area for a bit. We could even rope Mike into a demonstration of the sim software his company does (for those interested)... then strongarm him into some freebies!:twisted::twisted:

Does this sound like utter toss? or am I onto something? The only issue I could see would be that we'd need to hire somewhere, and somewhere with several rooms (or at least a decently large area to break groups apart).

Not a bad idea, but members like Freddy and I who live in the U.S. would find it difficult to attend (so much for Freddy giving his Linux talk...at least in person).

We could do the US talks with a IP video link....

That's an idea. All of the UK CF members could take up a collection so that their "poor relations" in the US could attend the conference. :biggrin

    lol.

Hey, if all 6,000 or so of our members actually read this and helped, it would only cost us £1 or so each 8)

Or less, given the exchange rate at the moment. $12,000 may be a bit much - don't want you guys flying business class, after all

I've suggested something like this for the last get together, but we found it pretty difficult to find a venue that was affordable, most of our members have a hard time forking out for the train fare, so we were trying to find a place to host things that was cheap - free, a challenge I'm sure you will agree

there are still wheels in motion though, trying to sort out stuff when i have a few spare minutes

great to here there's a bit more support for it though :)

Also for our interantional members like Blue Rinse, BM and Trip you could set up a web cam
