Welcome to the CertForums 70-228 & 70-229 Forum FAQ Page

What is the purpose of this forum ?
This forum is designed to discuss any issue related to the Microsoft 70-228 and 70-229 exams.

What Areas do these exams cover ?
70-228 and 70-229 Cover designing, installing, configuring and administering Microsoft SQL 2000 servers in an enterprise environment.

So what is a Microsoft SQL 2000 Server ?
SQL Server 2000 is a family of products designed to meet the data storage requirements of a wide variety of people from individuals and small businesses to large data processing systems and commercial Web sites. At its core, SQL Server 2000 provides two fundamental services. The first service is the SQL Server service, which is a high-performance, highly scalable relational database engine. The second service is SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services, which provides tools for analyzing the data stored in data warehouses for decision support.

Who are these exams aimed at ?
They are aimed at people who already work as Database Administrators (DBA's) in a Microsoft SQL 2000 server environment who are seeking to become MCDBA certified.

What sort of topics are appropriate for this forum ?
Any aspect of designing, installing, configuring and administering Microsoft SQL 2000 servers especially any topic covered by the 70-228 and 70-229 exams. If you have questions regarding other database products such as Oracle or MySql you may be better posting them in the Software or Programming, Scripting & Web Design forums.

What if no-one answers my question ?
Hopefully someone on the forum will always be able to help, but in those instances when you receive no response in a timely manner, please direct your comments to the forum moderator or the site administrator. Also, please keep in mind that, if your question is quite involved, it may take a bit of research on a responder's part before they can provide any assistance. Please try to be patient.

How detailed should my question be ?
The more detail, the better. Very often, it is difficult to respond meaningfully to a question if not enough detail is included. Sometimes, of course, it can be hard to know how much detail to include in an initial question and, in that event, responders may ask you to clarify certain points.

What Qualifications do the exams count towards ?
    Both exams count toward
    Microsoft Certified Professional
Core credits for Microsoft Certified Database Administrator on Microsoft SQL Server 2000
Elective credits for Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer on Microsoft Windows 2000
Elective credits for Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer on Microsoft Windows NT 4.0

    70-228 Counts toward
Elective credit for Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator on Microsoft Windows 2000

    70-229 Counts toward
Elective credit for Microsoft Certified Solution Developer for Microsoft .NET
Elective credit for Microsoft Certified Solution Developer
Elective credit for Microsoft Certified Application Developer for Microsoft .NET

Are there any Microsoft courses for these exams ?
Yes there are 3 covering various aspects of the exams
Course 2071: Querying Microsoft SQL Server 2000 with Transact-SQL
Course 2072: Administering a Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Database
