when you install the cd it should bring up some options like Install etc. Is it the real cd and not a copy?

when you put the CD inn the drive and close it, it should bring up a list of options like Install practice exams, freeware & shareware, ebook reader and Glossary. Does this happen?

It just says : Do you want to quit ? - I click yes and the disk contents disappear, If I click no - they stay on screen. I have to say though the disc driver does seem to take awhile reading the disc and seems to be making some funny noises - also it takes awhile for the contents of the disc to come up on screen

ahh right, is the disc scratched? it could be that it is a dodgy disc and you maye have to get it replaced.

Or your drive could be on its way out, do your other discs work ok?

    Hi GreenBruceLee,

Sorry had to dash earlier - wife demanded computer access.

New developments : 1. Tried the CD-Rom next door in neighbours system and it worked properly with proper install !!
    2. Tried other CD-Roms on my drive - no problem !

So CD-Rom appears incompatable with my system : says XP Compat.

    Any ideas

    Many Thanks

not sure but you mentioned your drive making noises when you had that disc in. purchase a cd lense cleaner and see if that resolves the issue. For some reason the drive isn't reading the disc correctly and it's either the disc itself, the drive or something to do with how your system is configured to play CDs.

    Dear Greenbrucelee,

Ssince yesterday I did an optical drive clean as you suggested - this didn't sort the problem. I did however (fo right click on the CD-rom icon in my computer and it appeared with auto run at the top in bold and therefore seems to have had auto on. I then scrolled down to Open to reveal everything I wanted on the CD and opened everything I wanted manually from there. You mentioned auto play which seems to have been the problem. How do you switch auto play off ?????? Sorry about the typos - this system isn't allowing me to delete for some unknown reason ??

Many Thanks once again for your kind help & patience

    all the best

I was actually meaning was auto play off when I mentioned it but you are saying it's on.

If the rest of your cds are installing then I would just use the CD the way you have just found out by right clicking on the cd icon and selecting open and then what you need.

The CD should actually play automatically so I am not sure why it isn't.

EDIT: if you want autoplay off right click on your cd-rom icon the select auto play and deselect it.

Might be worth copying the contents of the CD to the HD and running it from there.

I had the same problem. The same solution as well, i.e. open the drive manually and run it from there.
