    Guys,
As I was heading out of the office today I was asked to do a favour one that I'm green about...... A little background first may help - we are disposing of a load of stuff at the end of this week (snow permitting). One of the more interesting items to us in the office were some cisco routers/switches etc. but the main Cisco guy in my office is on his hols for a couple of weeks - cutting his way through a jungle in Southern India I believe - so we can't ask him, so the favour they asked me was to find out if any of the cisco gear could be useful for studying with.

I'm having a look around the net at the moment but have to admit I am very green about what kit is needed for what exam etc. and whilst I'll get there eventually I thought I'd ask to see if some kind Cisco-person would be able to help create an up-to-date list of what is the "best" preferred kit - this way we can siphon the useful stuff for us from the stuff we can get rid of.

The certs I've been asked to look for are:

CCNA (and the varieties - security/wireless/voice)
    CCNP
    CCDA

Any help will be appreciated, I'll post what I find and please feel free to correct me if I barking up the wrong tree in the wrong forest!

    cheers 8)

    Hi Derkit

Post up the list and I will tell you if the stuff is any good for the certs you are looking for.

    Cheers

cheers Joe - unfortunately I don't have a list with me, and my knowledge of it existed was "room 32 needs emptying for Friday, think there's some Cisco gear in there" - didn't even knew we had control over room 32!

    CCNA
Just stumbled across an older post of Joe's:

    3 x 2610xm's
    2 x 2950
    4 x WIC-1T interfaces
4 cross over ethernet CAT5 cables
    a few straight ethernet CAT5
    3 x DTC/DCE cables (3ft)
    5 kettle leads

The list that I drew up is great for the CCNA, the 2610xm's will also see you good for the CCNA Voice, provided they have 64M Flash and at least 128RAM

You never know, Room 32 might be an Aladdins cave of cisco wonders.

    Cheers

    Joe

    Cisco 2811 Router
    Cisco 1841 Router
    Cisco 3550 Switch
    Cisco 3550 Switch

This is what we're all hoping!

    Edit: Amendment
    CCNP
    3x 3640 (12.4 Main)
    1x 2650XM (12.4 beyond Main)
    3x 2950 (2 are EI models)
    1x 3550 (EI)
    1x 2511
    Plus network modules and cables

    And another
    4 2611XM
    2 3550
    2 2950
    1 Cisco 2511
2 Octol Cables for the 2511

    Looks like CCNA Security

    2 2650XM 256/48 12.4 Routers
    1 2611XM dual Etherent 128/32 12.4 Router
    3 2950 Switches
    1 NM-4A/S Serial Module
    2 WIC-1T Serial Modules
2 DTE/DCE back to back cables
    6 Power Cables
    Console cable kit
    2 Ethernet Crossover Cables
    5 Etherent Patch Cables

Which looks to me like the CCNA with an extra 2950

hmm, whilst the CCNA may be relatively easy to build, reading craigie's blog on his CCENT/CCNA it dawned on me that the situation could arise that there may not be "standard" lab to build as the bigger it grows, the possibility of learning changes completely - I get the feeling this may be a dead-end job with no real answer in sight?!

    Hello.
The really big question is how are you getting rid of that equipment?
Are you doing a late Santa Claus to some of us here and just through in some Cisco gear?
Are you selling it? If so, for how much?
    Thanks

LOL guys - I'm trying my best to save as much as possible - already sorted my family out with a couple of laptops - fancied a couple of cisco routers/switches to adorn my walls at home. Even the g/f says its OK to store them here..... haven't had the heart to wind her up and say it'll need a rack in the corner :D

I was going to update you Monday but didn't get access until today - and I can tell you what a let down - my god, I work for one of the top 5 outsourcing companies and they don't know their bum from their bunions - a shed load of Nortel stuff, thousands of fibre ports that look nothing more than a way of extending fibres together - hmmmmh

I did find a couple of Cisco 4000 (?!) lying around but have yet to find out what they do and if they're worth taking.

So after this excitement of Cisco switches and routers, its ending up being Nortel "things" (will investigate more tomorrow) and fibre extenders for racks..........

    :(

LOL - Cisco 4000, a model that was end-of-life in about 2000/1....... now after getting all excited (thats rather sad!) I'm quite deflated now...... and I still have to move the kit!
