Hi everyone, I'm having trouble with Boson netsim.
I'm running it on Windows Vista.

    Heres a screenshot:

I'm not sure hoe exactly I can configure this when I get to the config screen - where should I point it to?

As far as I am aware, Vista doesn't have Telnet installed *out of the tin*

    Try;

Control Panel > Programs and features > Turn Windows features on > Telnet.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Simon,

thanks for that but I didn't have any luck with it.

Aw well... I had just got the lend of it from a friend, I'm thinking about buying it. I have to admit it does look impressive.

    Download this one mate.

    http://www.hilgraeve.com/htpe/index.html

And when you start it for the first time select is your default telnet app. Also right click on the shorcut and run it as Windows XP SP2 in compatibility mode.

If it doesnt work then as suggested ask BosonMichael as Im sure the tech guys have seen this problem. 8)

The others are right... Telnet isn't installed with Windows Vista by default, but you can certainly add it following the procedures above.

Please let me know if you have any other issues - I'd be happy to help you. :)

Thanks for the assistance, everyone! :)

Sent this message up the flagpole, since I work in ExSim development and not NetSim development. They confirmed that NetSim does indeed use the host's Telnet client when NetSim is operating in advanced mode.

We will add a note in the FAQs about the lack of natively installed Telnet support in Vista. Thank you for the heads-up! :)

    Thanks for the replies everyone!

You sure can add telnet to Vista using the first method mentioned but the Boson software doesn't detect it automatically.

EDIT: I should also add that I don't know how to tell Boson where it is using a "manual" method.

It says in the error message... choose Tools > Change Default Telnet App. :)

Yup I know .... but I have just recently upgraded to Windows Vista (x64 at that) and I don't know where to look for the telnet app... well I've been looking but can't find it.

Also, the Boson Netsim software doesn't open the Labs (PDF format) that are in it. When I click view nothing happens..... even after 15 minutes.

    Have you checked C:\Windows\System32\telnet.exe?

Again, I'm not part of the NetSim team... but don't the labs open directly in the application?

I'm running version 6 and I can either open the .pdf labs in the application or outside and view them as regular .pdf files.

Will try this tonight - at work at the moment, thanks.

I can't do this.... its only new software too - I'll try one more time on vista and then on VMware XP.
