    Hi guys,

I have just been given a Toshiba Portege 2000 Laptop to play around with, but the problem that I am having is that I cannot boot it up to start. I keep getting a message that says:

A disk read error occured Press CTRL+Alt+Del to restart.

The Laptop is running Windows XP Professional have tried to "Google" the message above to see if there is a solution to the problem but I cannot find anything.

Is it true that I can boot from a PCMCIA card? If so how would I go about this? The Laptop does not have a Floppy or CD_ROM drive..

    Regards.

    hi,

can you take the drive out and re-seat?

if not, what does it say in the BIOS?

If you can take the Hard Drive out, which you should be able to (from Memory) then you can connect it up with a IDE/SATA Connectivity Kit and run some tests on the hard drive. As mentioned in previous posts, it sounds buggered.
