I am being encourage by several people I know to start a blog as I journey into photoshop. To maybe help others that are starting out as I am. Well, you all here know how I do like to help others so it is starting to interest me. However, before today I have never even thought about blogging and I really have no idea which way to go with this. And what in the world would I name it. The first one who suggests anything with ducktape gets it right in the puss! Unless you can make it cool with photoshop them I might forgive ya.:biggrin

Blogger.com and Wordpress have been suggested. Someone said something about php and wordpress? Do I need to know php for this one? I really don't want to learn php at the moment if so that one is out. Do you guys have anything suggestions?

Wordpress.net should give you a free blog, its basically the same sort of service as blogger but on wordpress software and has some flexibility (wordpress is a far superior platform to blogger) I dont know squat PHP and I got my wordpress blog up and running, I don't use the wordpress.net platform anymore, i host my own wordpress blog over at media temple
although I am useless at updating it, but i keep telling myself thats more to do with my recent move :)

I use wordpress on mine. Admittedly, I host it myself on a machine at home, but it works pretty well. Theres a whole ream of plugins you can get for wordpress that can change the whole experience too.

I tried using another one at one point, cant remember what it was called though, I just remember it was a bit pants.

I think it's a great idea Mitz. When I started out in design, it was largely thanks to people who published their experiences and tips 'n tricks that helped me to progress. The most junior user will probably know some little trick or shortcut that the most advanced won't be aware of so there's a constant stream of insormation sharing, plus it will help you immeasurably as people send you their experiences.

When I worked in motoring advertising, I forever had to touch up (fnar) images people sent of their cars to make them more appealing, as photos, slides, trannies etc always had scratches, stains, oil marks on them, and being able to search blogs where people had published their knowledge on colour matching, colour balancing, image manipulation etc helped no end. Go for it!

    I'm confused.

There is already a duct tape blog :

    http://www.ducttapemarketing.com/blog/

Do we need more on duct tape ?

    :ohmy:p

On a serious note I did have some probs copy/pasting text from a Word doc into a Wordpress blog. It really didn't seem to like it and it screwed up the formatting.

Ah Mitzs, that would be great, I would eventually like to mess about with Photoshop, so a blog from yourself would come in handy. Let me know when you have started and i wont be late for the first lesson. (for fear of being duct tapped to the wall as target practise)

If you're going to set up a blog, Wordpress.com is by far the easiest and cheapest (free!) way to go. I've been using Wordpress since 2005, and it works great.
