Next month, the BCS will announce a series of wide-ranging initiatives and changes to the UK’s oldest IT professional membership body.

The organisation is closely involved in many of the government’s initiatives to boost the technology sector and to develop the workforce IT skills that will be needed for future economic success.

Computing talked to BCS chief executive David Clarke about the challenges facing IT leaders and IT professionals in the coming months.

I see they've changed most of it now.
Anyone know if the MBCS logo is going to change?

 

I expect they'll start to announce all the changes over the next few weeks. There is a Member groupd Convention on 23rd for Branch and SG Group Committee Members - we will probably hear then.

 

Any chance someone could summarise the changes for me, or point me in the right direction of a synopsis of exactly what they are? As far as I can see, all that's happened is a facelift for the website, new logos/colour scheme and the instigation of a 'test' (which may or may not reflect computing in the real world as opposed to vaccuum valves & punch cards) to achieve 'chartered' status (which may or may not be recognised by industry as a whole).

Of course, that may just be me with my 'the-opposite-of-rose-coloured spectacles' on whenever it comes to anything to do with the BCS - if there's anything online that explains things in a bit of a better light, I'd be grateful if someone IKT with the BCS can let me know where it is so I can take a looksee.

As I've said before, the Transformation is rolling out over 18 months and started 18th Sept with the website changes. It will take time to get everything underway.

Once I'm back from the Convention (23/09) I'll post whatever other news there is.

Some parts of the website have changed, others will gradually be phased in (including Branches and SG's).

Has anyone had a chance to look at the new social networking bit on the BCS Members area?

My first impressions are that it could be ok. It depends if it gets used and it doesn't just get filled with posts from members whining about how bad the BCS is ect....
