AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate

    Hi All

    I thought I would keep a record of the resources I'll be using to home/self study for the AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate exam. I'm going for the Architect exam as I'm a Solution Architect currently, and the Associate level is the entry level. I have almost zero knowledge of AWS but there are no pre-requisites to taking this exam. The little I do know is thanks to VMware now being available on AWS, so I'm loosely aware of things like elastic DRS. I understand general industry concepts like like hybrid cloud and distributed computing.

    One of the first things you'll need to do is register for an AWS Certification account here.

    I will be making use of the following resources, starting by printing off the blueprint and watching all of the Udemy videos.

    • Exam blueprint. I prefer to print these off and mark off the areas I feel I understand, focussing more on those I don't.

    Took it, failed it :tune

    I did load of these :- https://qwiklabs.com/

    Plus I was using it for work.

    Still failed, seems you need to really cram for it, even at the associate level, I was nowhere close to passing.

    I used the free tier on and off for 6 months.

    I didn't do the Udemy course which was probably a mistake.

    I also went to the AWS summit in London, there is one each yeah in June.

    Having 6 certifications seems overkill to me, but that is certification for you.

    Cheers Dave, I won't take this one lightly then. I'm a bit scared now :choke:Does it tell you where your weak areas are or just say failed?

    Usual stuff tells you 6-7 areas and what you scored. I had 40-60% in most sections.

    I took the operations track, you need to know lot stuff about how things fail-over and how many replicas etc. I thought I knew the products but it became very clear within minutes I didn't know enough to pass.

    I only studied for exam part time for like a month, so i was winging it, but yeah its not easy.

    Cheers Dave, I will double my efforts in that case as I too was looking to study part time for a month, although by part time, I don't mind the odd 8 hours on a Sat and Sun if I can get away with it, so about 20 hours a week I reckon. Hopefully the Architect associate isn't as harsh as the Ops

    I deliberately avoided the architect track as its supposed to be extremely hard, but that was the professional exam.

    I heard the only people passing were people that took a 3 day boot-camp from Amazon for like £3000.

    Still you can do it, good luck ! :thumbleft

    Glad this post has resurfaced as I need to get back into studying for this exam. I started a new job at the end of Jan and I needed to readjust my focus to my VCP which would of expired at the end of Feb, so poor AWS went out of the window. I will log into my free tier now and get cracking
