    According to cisco documentation
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/qos/configuration/guide/autoqos_voip.html#wp1071316
the auto qos voip command can only be used on serial interfaces (and ATM, FR).

In my cisco ccna voice book on page 294 it shows a config with auto qos voip cisco-phone command on interface fa0/3.
    What is the deal here?
Since my 3524XL switch does not support auto qos, I cannot practically check this feature. Can somebody shed some light on this enigma?

nope you can, not sure the ins and outs but we have it configured on our 2950's offshore, and before we moved to nortel our 3550 had it also.

Talked to a technician at my work and according to him auto qos is available on cisco L3 devices (3550/3560 and up).
I could not get it to work on my c2611xm router, but that was only because it is configured as a router on a stick and auto qos does not work on sub-interfaces. When I brought the other fa interface up, the auto qos command was available.
This whole qos, cos, tos subject makes my head spin :)

Yes, so it seems. But you do need the EI (Enhanced Image) version.
And apparently CEF must be enabled. Something to do with nBAR.
I can see I am going to break my brain on QoS :dry

Thanks for the link, much appreciated.

Hey Danielno8, you live in the Town of Roses and have routers offshore... working for an oil company?

I have had my fair share of days offshore. When I was young and dumb and full of .... it, being a professional diver. :D
