    In a nutshell

Basically when you ping a DNS name such as computer 1 it will look for (or try to resolve) computer1.dnssuffix1.com and then computer1.dnssuffix2.com

Handy if you have 2 domains internally such as research.com and ad.com

So using those 2 domain names as an example and setting the order to look for the suffix of ad.com first it will look for (Or in reality query the DNS server for)
    computer1.ad.com
then if it doesnt find that it will try
    computer1.research.com

It is not only used for pings but this is the most graphic use, application will use this for resolution as well
