Got a bit of a problem with XP, not serious but just annoying
When I boot up my PC and log onto XP, My Computer window opens up on it's own!? I've checked startup folder and msconfig, but can't see anything in either to see why this keeps popping up on start up?

    Anyone got any ideas?

    :D

Should work with 'My Computer' also.

Another method that doesn't involve messing with the registry:

Put an USB pen-drive in the machine and navigate in 'my computer' to show the contents.

    Shut down.

    Remove pen drive and reboot.

The 'my computer' window shouldn't reopen on logon.

Really? So I just insert my data stick, browse it's contents in My Computer, then shut down my PC whilst my computer is still open and restart?

Yes - but remember to remove the stick before the restart.

Basicaly 'my computer' remembers where it was across restarts. But if it finds the location doesn't exist any longer it gives up and doesn't open.

Ah right, makes sense I suppose. Just can't remember ever having it open before when I've shut down?
I'll try that when I get in anyway :D

Right, tried using memory stick method and..... it's still popping up at boot up. Also searched registry and couldn't see the exact line that was mentioned? I can see a few that are similar, but I would like to delete these incase I mess something up. Not sure what else to check :blink

Hm - that means that something has put a specific line in the startup.

In the run box type msconfig then go to the startup tab and look through that list.

What i was going to suggest as well Harry, until i re-read.

SolidSponge: Try going through the reg keys carefully, it should be there. Remember it's the 'Windows NT' folder you are going, not 'Windows'.
