Not really where I want to be anymore, bored of life behind a desk, lost all motivation over a year ago.

Got some other plans in the pipeline as well :)

Cool, let us know how you got on. While I haven't done the course (... yet :) ), I have done a Managing Challenging Behaviour course and while not IT related, the soft skills learnt can be transferable to any industry/sector.

What I've been told is let the person get all of their frustration out first then try and help them :)

Of course not if they're going to let their fists do the talking :)

Thats really great Wizard - I'm sure you are a shoe in for the SIA. Have you ever read any of Geoff Thompsons Stuff? The guy is an ex factory worker who turned doorman and martial artist and writter and is also credited with helping to start the trend in "Reality Based Self Defense" back in the early to mid 90's. The laws and reulations have moved on but in his book Dead or Alive he goes into the mind sets of crimals through interviews with muggers upto and including serial killers, what to look for when people are conceling a weapon and the chnages that the invitable adrenalin dump will bring in and strageys for coping with it. Well worth a read.

    Good Luck for the cert!

And while there is no one style/art/philosophy that suits everyone, Geoff, even though he's got a rep as a controversial martial artist, is well trained and knows his stuff.

Another vote for Geoff Thompson's early works, fear is well worth a read, explains a lot about adrenaline and your natural reactions when faced with confrontation.

Also its really worth investing in a good book about body language, Manwatching by Desmond Morris was always recommended to most senior students by my instructor.

Personally I think anyone who works the doors must be little unhinged (I mean this in the nicest way) a few good friends of mine have done this and the trouble you get into can be really nasty!

One very good piece of advice, do not live in the same area of the club you work at ;)

but I guess you probably know that already.
    Best of luck.

Good stuff Wizard. Keep us all posted on how you handle the ferals!

Hats off to you for going down this route as in this day and age Door Supervision is full of dangers. Years ago, I seem to remember people accepting the "sorry mate, not tonight" refusals of a bouncer and bouncers back then certainly commanded some respect.
