I was in pogo working on a badge. Some girl pops up ask about antivirus who had what and so on. I didn't say anthing because everyone was offering her their information. She didn't like this one, norton was to exp. So I pop in then tell her about free avg of course. Told her to download free zonealarm and she have a pretty good safety net for free. Out of the blue another person chimes in with. "You know that zone alarm is not an antivirus, but an alerter"

An alerter? WTF? Before I could ask her anything else she goes," it just keeps poping up all the time for no reason."

She got tired of it, so she just deleted it from her computer.

So the girl who is orginally asking for help by then is just confused. I told her to uninstall her old software, then download the avg and update it. Then download the zonealarm. Read the manual that they have with it. It would explain it how it works and what she needs. I told her that zone alarm was a good product and only ignortant people that did not take the time to RTFM had prombles with it! Of course the other lady did not appreciate that at all and thought it was the software and not her. So I asked her where she was located at. She wanted to know why. That is when I proceeded to tell her that just about all my friends were computer techs and they live all over the globe. That one of them prob lived in her neck of the woods and sooner or later she was going to need their number. 8) I don't think she liked me much after that. :biggrin

Like your style Mitzs! How stupid must one be to call a firewall an 'alerter'?
Hope you did not gave her your number. I don't think the two of you will be friends:biggrin

The average computer user knows nothing, my sister has just informed me that she has a virus on her computer that she is replacing with a laptop for some weird reason. I asked her if she had a firewall and she said yes, I then said do you update it regularly and is it something you have to pay for.

She said Do I have to update it, its called Mccafee and I stopped paying for it after 12 months because thats when its paid for.

The dumb c** didn't know she had to renew after the 12 months, I had a look at her computer and she has 12 different viruses but she doesnt want me to take them off for her because she's getting a new laptop.

Some people are like my sister f***** stupid :x

No someone like that I would end up choking. I don't mind people at all that don't know better but are willing to learn. Its even ok, if they don't want to learn but at least will follow the directions you give them to keep the puter updated. However, as my mothers puts it. Life is to short and I have no time for fools. :dry

She probably won't let me because she'll want to do it her way because her way is the best way.

She does't listen, she bought a car (wont say the name of it) but we told (me and my brother)her that the make of car was very unreliable and if parts needed replacing they would be expensive but she didn't listen and now it's costing her money.

She works as a support worker for a child with special needs in a school and has all these fancy qualifications, she had an argument with my Mum about whats best for the kid and my sister said she knew best because of the courses she had done, she is now having to ask my Mum for advice because my mum has 28 years experience looking after kids with special needs and fostering kids (I am one of the foster kids), but no qualifications though.

But my sister will never change even though she's wrong more often than right, but would never admit it.

Not worth any money apart from using to mess aroung with, I dont know the specs but I believe it isn't even a 1GHz I think its 733MHz so its crap basically or scrap, I suppose if I can prize it of my sisters disposal methods (whatever they are) then I could use it to practice on.
