    Hi all,

Just starting on this course, and working through the microsoft lab manual and got Active Directory installed on Windows Server 2008 (Trial version on VMWare Player) but when I try to add a child domain, after installing the Active Directory Domain Services Role, using dcpromo it only gives me the option to remove active directory. I must be missing something really obvious here

How comes I can not add a child domain to a forest root domain?

You need to install it on a different server (A DC can only be on one domain - and a child domain is a different domain)
