    Hi all,

My plan is to obtain A+ N+ and then possibly MSDST... however, i will be doing A+, N+, but was wondering if you think it will be viable to go further if i do not obtain a job (in IT)... I mean, would it be of any use if i decide to go for the MSDST even if i had no experience??

A+ and N+ is the basics, so that will be good either way...

Sorry cheekmaster i just got ask.. how far you willing to go to get a job in IT.. the way you sounding... you too negative.. :(
the market is dead flat and to get your foot in sometimes you need to find other ways to get experience... have you thought of unpaid work? i know it might not sound like a good idea but if you need experience and cant find a job i think its worth looking into..

I say go for MCDST... MCSA/MCSE's need atleat 12-18 months experience in network enviroments according to MS before starting out... i have neither just about a year in support... i didnt have much networking knowledge either but im determined to get to the top (my top being CCNP and Linux Admin) - we all need to start somewhere and so should you... chin up and get studying! :biggrin

sorry if i sounded negative, but honestly i am kinda fed up, but wont stop trying - i applied for 3 vol jobs last week unpaid, told them my skills and studying for A+, ave to wait for up2 3 weeks for a reply...

i wont stop trying, especially through the crap i've been through last year, the main part of the query, (probably typed it wrong), is there are some people with CCNA, MCSE or whatever but no experience, and i dont wanna go through that route. should i hold after n+ and go further when i get a job, or go further even if i dont have a job....

    :(

edit: thanks for your tip on mcdst...

i think what you trying to ask is : Is it worth getting higher level certs with no experience?

it depends on the cert... MCSE is today considered for many Junior Network jobs so looking to get that after MCDST and MCSA would be reasonable... you have to keep trying to get some form of experience and not give up! Stick to your plan of a+ n+ then mcdst.. then start looking at mcsa and finally mcse..

I think Zimbo's right on the nose here. Going to far up the cert path is asking for trouble if you don't have the experience to back it up.

employers will look at you and say, yes, you're MCSE, but how did you get it if you have no experience?

Get the A+, The Network+, and A couple of MCP's. with any luck by the time you have got them you will have found employment.

That's it....it's all to do with experience....no matter what certs you've got.....

so.....try to get involved with IT in any job that you do.....

I got involved with IT even working in a restaurant 2 years ago.... swim towards it....... get reference from these people who you helped....scores
