    Hi all,

I've just received an e-mail from Microsoft Learning stating that you can upgrade your 2003 MCSA to 2012 using the 70-417 exam. I thought this wasn't so, therefore I rang Microsoft today and apparently you can.

So anyone out there that is looking to upgrade their 2003 MCSA but don't want the hassle of doing 2008 first. This is apparently a viable way of doing it.

Does anyone else have any experience of this?

That's cool.. I guess they are really trying to encourage people to pay for some certs ;)

All jokes a side, it's cool that they're doing that, I know some people will appreciate it...

I also think it's really good they are offering this option, especially as it could instill a "skip a generation" mentality in cert takers.... got 2012, think I'll skip 2015 and wait for 2018 upgrade exams to come out.... if that makes sense. Either that or they admit the whole 2008 MCITP bag of nails was enough to put you off. It would be interesting to see how many people sit each exam and if there was a dip in 2008 takers....

The thing is, those of us with 2003 certs are more likely to be in more senior positions these days (if is after all over 10 years ago) so what are the chances that 2003 MCSE holders were to upgrade to 2012? As an aside I know it's not something I am considering for exactly that reason (having moved on to both a VMware Virtualisation stack and Management).

Apparently, you can now go all the way back to MCDST: Windows XP and use 417 to upgrade!
