So I've been considering purchasing a 360 sometime soon and was looking at the Elite. I'd prefer black than white to be honest (Although its not so much of a factor that I'd cut my nose off to spite my face), but it would also give the HDMI cable, and the bigger HDD from the get-go.

I dont have an HDTV at the moment, but I'd look at picking one up at some point in the future.

The question is though, If I were to pick up the elite, and buy a Scart cable separately, would I be able to hook it up? or is the Elite tuned to only work on HDTV's? Anyone have any idea?

I'm may not the best person to post in this topic(being a little biast) but why bother forking out the extra cash to play hd through a hdmi on your xbox just buy the classic and a tin of black spray paint ;) , the games are the same. But to answer your original question yes you can use the normal composite cables as see in this picture

p.s or you could just buy a ps3 since warhawk is due out in september lol

PS3 and 360 Elite are the same price right now. Personally I would get the PS3. I had the elite before but didnt really liked it. On the second day it crashed and I was getting the 3 red rings, I exchanged and it never happened again, the thing is I returned it anyways because I figured PS3 will be down in price soon and for the games that I like such as Gran Tourismo its better suited for me.

Make sure you get the extended warranty when you buy the xbox.

I have played on the PS3 and had 4 of the origional 360s I prefer the 360 the controller is easier to use, as the PS3 still has those stubby little anologue sticks.

But I would wait if I were you untill A: the elite is proven not to have as many hardware/overheating issues as the origional or B: wait untill the smaller version comes out which is supposed to have better cooling

they're supposed to be shipping all versions of the 360 with a new newheatsink and its rumoured the elite will start being shipped with a new 65nm falcon chipset to reduce the number of failed units.

theprof - prices in europe arent the same as america the PS3 hasn't had a price drop over here yet. also the 360 elite isn't on sale here till end of this month.

still £329 for a black xbox is a bit of a joke, and the sixaxis controller has the same design as the dual shock controller but there functionality are very diffrent one feature that i love about the sixaxis is its rechargable and lasts for ages(unlike some other console pads where you end up taking out a contract with the duracell bunny), and as for the ps3 itself which other console do you know that has its own native linux os that uses all the cores (2x dual core ppc 7x spe @3.2Ghz), and i dont need to pay to play online :D

Yep... you can use that "native linux os that uses all the cores" on BOTH of the PS3's games. :thumbleft

Although I'm not a console gamer, if I were to buy one, there's no contest: it'd be the XBox, hands down. And if not that, I'd have to give the Wii strong consideration.

I actually want a Wii too. They are great social gaming consoles. Bunch of mates round... few beers (For the alcohol inclined - but no spilling on my damn carpet!), and much laughs. and thats only with wii sports.

xbox seems more about playing alongside people at the other end of the world than those fools who call you a friend sitting next to you.

...but i still want one. thinking i might just get the premium. trade in all my xbox games to get a bit of a discount.

i would say if its a laugh your after then the wii would do, its like the little small car of the console world "Nippy" and "Fun" but at the end of the day its still only a small car, so you goto sacrafice on boot space and engine power

i liked the 360 when i had one untill it went capoot and then the replacement done the same.

and then theres the ps3 sure its a lttle more expensive but if your into the whole media home experience then its a sound investment:

    DVD upscaler
    BD Player
    Streaming TV(PC Required)
    Radio Streaming
Streaming Movies,Music, And Viewing Pictures from local media server(Yip including WMP11 lol)
Network,Internal, And External USB Storage device
    Gigabit,WiFi, and Bluetooth Networking
Great Games(with free online gaming unlike xbox live)
its will play more formats than I care to mention(and anything it can't play you could always transcode it on the fly)
The is more but i think i will leave it at that

Sorry Michael my comments are directed towards the Elite not the classic 360, i liked the classic as stated above but couldn't live with 2 units failing and being shafted for online gaming

i think the 360s 30% failure rate is the only draw back and its quite a worrying one, just hope the new chipset will solve the problem.

They're actively fixing the failure problem, I believe. Multiple issues, from what I hear from those on the inside... and unfortunately, things that I believe should have been caught. But it should be decently solid now, and there are scads of games available.

    me too :D

My patience got to the 4th replacement which I sold 3 weeks after it arrived.

I have seen a modded one which has a higher case with 4 fans in the top 2 to suck in air and 2 to blow it out.

Its my firm belief that the hardware failures (3 red light of death) are because the system does not cool itself very well and its the graphics chip which ends up burning out.

The 2nd Xbox I had did not work at all this had a faulty PSU but 2 of them were the same problem being too hot.

Hopefully the new one will be good

There have to be games running on something in order to overheat it... something the PS3 lacks...

if i want a variety of games then i got my PC for that. So far in this thread there been 6 360 Failure mentioned 4 from Bruce and 2 of mines, but hay least there bringing a new chip out that will solve all this great!! (3 1/2 years after they said they didn't have a PROBLEM!!) ok so then theres the games for the ps3 ok not many of them(12 that i know of) Sony admitted there should have been more game by now but its more but developers need to catch up EA Makes a BooBoo
