These questions might seem a bit retarded but please bear in mind I havent actually owned a pc for 10 years.

    1. I am going to upgrade to 2meg of ram at the moment I have 1 gig 2x 512mb, do I buy another gig as 2x 512mb or just a gig on its own or do I buy 2 1gig dimms.

    2. I am going to buy a 2nd MSI 8600gt graphics card is it difficult to connect both cards or is self explanatory.

Thanks in advance for your help.:)

How many RAM slots does your motherboard have? A lot of your questions can be answered at http://www.crucial.com/. Take a look around. You can look up your system type and figure out your options from there.

I always use Crucial wherever possible. So far, it hasn't let me down. The System Scanner will usually tell you what memory you need and how much your system can take. It will also take you to the checkout!

I would personally use matched pairs of RAM aswell as some mobos are fussy.

If you have dual channel compatibility on your mobo (think you have if i remeber) Then your better off replacing the 2 x 512mb sticks with 2 x 1gb dual channel matched pairs. You'll get a slight increase in performance. I have 2gb of geil dual channels in mine and it deems fine.

As for the graphics card, if your connecting as SLI then you should have a little bridging connector (included with the mobo) that will connect the 2 cards via a little row of connectors on the top of each card. Looks a bit like a copper ribbon cable about 1inch long. Comes with motherboard because of the gap between each SLI slot may be different on different brands of mobo apparently, so they supply a cable that fits that gap!
