Are you looking at doing messaging or security, i would personally think both are valid in the it industry however most companies like to see messaging in some form or another.

Hoever that is not the rule, as with everything in IT its all about what you want to do. There is no reason at all why you could not go down the security route (its fun :P)

been working in IT for about 3 yrs (gave up on the idea of going to uni) starting as a desktop support up to the dizzy heights of a network admin. Day to day maintenance, but had a few fun projects (ad domain migration for one!), linux wifi gateway with authentication (using nocatauth), and installing a new VOIP crystal in place of a alcatel digital piece of crap.

still toying with the idea of either a) getting into management, b) getting into security or c) just staying where i am.

    Got any jobs :-p

Yes, but none in the UK. :)

Sounds like you're ready for the MCSE. You can direct your exams to get the MCSE: Security certification. The Security+ is a good first step as well and shouldn't be that difficult for you.

The order of the exams is up to you... 70-293 and 70-294 are worthwhile to consider doing next, while you're in that mindset.

Congrats on the pass Karl, I'll be heading down the 290,291 road soon hopefully. As soon I start working with the servers more often and start using things like wsus, terminal services, exchange, etc.
