Since posting my most recent CV on CareerBuilder, Dice, and Monster, I've been receiving phone calls and emails from recruiters all over the country. Most of the jobs they are trying to interest me in are hundreds or even thousands of miles away, and I'm generally not interested in relocating.

The most recent email had an interesting signature and I thought I'd share it with you (stripping out the identifying info, of course):

    Regards
    First Name Last Name
    Technical Recruiter
    Name of recruiting company
    (Certified Woman Owned Company)
    phone line
    fax line

Does the "certified woman owned company" piece make any difference to you one way or the other? I suppose if I were a staunch feminist, I might prefer to work with a female owned company only, but I've never seen this sort of thing in a business sig before?

    Comments?

Not in the least. I find such things rather amusing. I wonder what some people would do if I advertised my little consulting business as a "Certified Protestant White Man Owned Company"?

If it was their company name certified woman, I would not think much of it. To me she is trying to reach out and get women involved in the cert and tech field but as a sig I'm asking what the hell is she certified for? Tech field? Nut House?
I am all for the " I am woman here me roar" or atleast let me try it to find out ok I can't do it. However I find it hard to be friends with women that think they are better then men in all aspects of life. To be honesty I run in the oppsite direction. And I don't know why, but that is what the sig screams at me.

I could see some people intrigued by this. Mostly women who might feel intimidated in the mostly man dominated world of IT.

Personally I couldn’t care less for it. It would probably deter me from using them or at least let them know I may not qualify for their service as I’m a man! .......... YEAH BABY.... :p

I see it as putting forward the general myth that women make better managers than men.
(I'm going to pay for this one!)

On the other side, they are better truck and bus drivers than men as they tend to treat their equipment better. Most men drive like they think they should ben a formula 1 car.
