    Hiya all,

I am looking to start a career in IT and am interested in Support. I have good IT skills and basic web design skills. I am thinking after reading these boards of self-studying for an A+ qualification.

Is this a useful qualification to get ? Would it open any doors ? Ideally I would like to gain an entry level position in this field - would this help me do that ?

How many other qualifications would I have to get (I'm thinking of doing Server+ after this) to stand a good chance of getting an entry level job ? :blink

Sorry about the 20000 questions - but theres a lot of good advice on here and would appreciate your help :biggrin

    thanks,

    Martin

Yup, I think the A+ would definetly help you get your foot in the door. :D

It's a pretty good place to start, and would be enough to get you a job as a PC tech. Most people choose this as their first cert, and alot of companies that do PC support/repair require it.

how longs a piece of string, but try some of the online agencies like www.jobserve.com or www.totaljobs.com.

they should give you a good guide to what jobs are around and the current pay. I'm sure you will notice that the 25K per annum jobs are few and far between

edit: bugger just notice Gav beat me to it never mind 8)

    Thanks for that guys.

When I type A+ into Jobsearch I only get 24 jobs - is that about right ?

Also out of interest is there a board on here for development things like c# and sql ? :biggrin

To be honest, I dont think I've ever seen A+ stipulated as a requirement for a job. Bear in mind, it is still really an entry level cert, compared to some of the more "advanced" offerings (eg MCSE, CCNA, etc). It's not so much showing that you have the A+, more that you will be able to say at interview or in application, that this is what you personally have gained, this is what you know, which is the basics in the industry you wish to progress in.

In a nutshell ? We all have to start somewhere, and for many of us, A+ is it.

    HTH :)

Yes you can. It helps if you have your own comp to pratice stuff on. 2 computers are even better.

In a word YES :) The N+ is will probably be a little tougher than the A+ ( Slightly higher pass mark ) but it is still one of the entry level certs and shouldn't be too tough.

If you are hoping to progress onto the CCNA or MCSA/E then the Network+ is an excellent starting point. Pity that it isn't typically a requirement when looking for employment because it does provide a solid foundation on which to build upon.

Mitzs, you might have to adjust your links for most people on this site to reflect the fact that about 99% live in the UK. :)
