Kurt is designing the wireless infrastructure for a new division of the company he works for as a wireless network administrator. He has done some research into “thin” Access Points. Of the statements below, which one would Kurt say is most accurate about this subject?

    A. A “thin” AP is one that has a limited amount of intelligence. One out of every 10 APs would possess an intelligent chipset and the thin APs would depend on the intelligent AP for information.
    B. A “thin AP is one that has a limited amount of intelligence. They depend on the circuitry in the WLAN NICs of the client machines to provide the intelligence to the wireless network.
    C. A “thin” AP is one that has a limited amount of intelligence. They depend on centralized wireless switches to provide the intelligence for the wireless network.
    D. A “thin” AP is one that has a limited amount of intelligence. They depend on an appropriately enabled wired switch such as Cisco’s Catalyst 6500 with WLAN Services Modules to provide intelligence to the wireless network.

    Answer later.

Time's up. The bandwagon wins. Answer is C. Each thin AP relies on an intellegent switch to provide switching for the WLAN. If you need a lot of AP coverage, the APs cost less and you're only really investing in one "pricey" piece of equipment per area.

    More later.
