Everyone knows that it is pointless having Anti-virus on a non server Linux system :) It is also recommended to have Windows and Linux on seperate hard drives if possible.
My question is what about when you have them on the same hard drive?
Is the Windows NTFS strong/ Linux strong enough to stop the other partition becomming corrupt?
If you don't log in to windows and update the AV, is it left wide open???? :blink

If you are running Windows then that generally can't access a Linux filesystem. The only thing that can happen would be for the partition to be destroyed, rather than getting a virus.

If you are running Linux then whether anything can access the NTFS partition depends on the drivers you have loaded. I would normaly only load them read-only, as they aren't very reliable at writing. So a virus shouldn't be able to infect files on the NTFS partition.

For this it is irrelevant whether the partitions are on the same drives or not.

The main reason for keeping it on separate drives is so any faults with partition management don't kill the other OS.

    P4 2.0ghz 40Gb HD and 512mb ram

in Virtual PC 2004 i can have either 2 servers running or 1 server and 1 client due to memory constraints

Would be better on my desktop pc at home as it has more memory and is faster but this way i can take the laptop to work and use it there aswell
