Windows Live question?

When I sign in to messenger I can see at the top of the messenger box I have an email if I click on the icon to goto the email I am taken to a screen saying the password or email address is wrong, but it cant be as it is signed into messenger and Its set to sign me into automatically.

I can get into my homail inbox etc by going into google, typing hotmail and then signing in.

Any suggestions on whats going on?
