The hype and anti-hype over Windows Vista is slowly gaining momentum. Will you be upgrading?

As it won't be released for 6 months there is plenty of time to consider this question! IMHO it is far too early to make a decision!

No - one thing I have learned the hard way is not to be on the 'bleeding edge'. I need to consider what is involved, and the pros and cons. There is plenty of time for this, and I refuse to be rushed on it! :biggrin

Well I will upgrade one of my PCs just to get to know the new OS. If you're in this industry you have to stay at the bleeding edge whether it is wise or not.

Think i'll wait till i can upgrade my current PC. XP runs fine atm and would rather wait for compatibility issues between games and such to be ironed out first. :)

Though i'm using the Office 12 beta as my standard office package atm and it rocks!

to be honest not really excited as i was with xp and even win 98. The main thing thats putting me offis its hardware requirements. And i think this time round im looking at Vista like a system admin - how are companies going to upgrade when they still using Win98? :blink

I’ll upgrade my PC at home as it needs a hardware upgrade anyways. Both HDs are full and the monitor needs replaced (it’s a CRT that’s needs put to sleep!). Adding a decent graphics card will probably make it ‘Vista Ready’!

In a work context I don’t see any major upgrades for a while. I will probably buy new laptops for clients with Vista pre-installed to see how it goes. Once some of the desktop users see the new Vista laptops hopefully there will be some demand to upgrade the desktops as well but it won’t be cheap! :biggrin

Well the beta version is 4.4 gig and that can only be burned onto a dvd. So more than likely the proper version will be the same.

I'll upgrade, but only from a professional perspective for now. You have to be familliar with the new technology if you're going to be supporting it! :biggrin

prefer to wait for a SP, but if i hear good things about it then, its going on, not sure which version though cuz remember there are 5 different versions!

edit: actually, if Vista is meant to be really secure, a SP should take a really long time.... hmmm.....

This sounds very like all the people who got XP Pro ("Because it's better innit") who then got in a muddle over permissions and the more complicated networking and other stuff not in 'Home'.

I'm sure you will know your way about it, but I'm expecting lots of enquiries from people at the Computer Fair who will be completely out of their depth.

No way I'm upgrading, only if it comes with a new PC. Microsoft should think about their pricing.
