I have just received a router I bought from ebay, it was caked in dirt and dust, I get a wierd sense of pleasure cleaning up bits of kit and making them shiny, that and seeing replies to pings.

Am I alone in taking pleasure in dusty old kit?

Yes. you are. you weirdo :p

We all have our odd pleasures in IT I think, my particular favourite is the sight of properly routed cables. Possibly the only time I insist on neatness!

I also like cleaning up kit, to the point of it being OCD.

Any laptop I get in to do work on gets cleaned. My desk, monitors, PCs and keyboards get cleaned every week.

We even disassemble keyboards here and put them in to the dishwasher

That's a sure fire way to clean a virus from a hard drive too :p

I like to make things sparkle too, it also makes it look like you have done something, as clients can't actually 'see' the work you have done.

My technical sh1t looks old. I never clean it. The house, on the other hand, is immaculate - I can't stand mess or dirt in the 'real world' - but my mancave is an absolute, utter tip. Go figure!

When you're done with the dishes, miss, there's some dusting and vacuuming that needs to be done.

you dont even need to disassemble most keyboards, as long as you give them ample time to dry before plugging them back in

and dont let it get too hot or you can melt the material inside, most keyboard just have plastic sheets in them for circuit boards these days

    Let's analyze the data:
    1) Arroryn didn't respond.
    2) I'm still alive.

Guess she must be doing that dusting and vacuuming I mentioned.
