    Let the games begin. :biggrin

I'll chime in after a few of you respond, just so I don't influence anyone.

Ok I voted Kirk...the original and best.

But I would say Jean Luc Picard a close second!!

Nuts! I forgot. Of course, he was only Captain in the first pilot, "The Cage" which was edited into the two part STTOG episode "The Menagerie" (which if I'm not mistaken, was the only Star Trek episode ever to win a Hugo).

    Sisko
he was a no nonesense, take no shite, take no prisoners, kinda guy, (like myself) whilst handling the management of a pretty essential federation piece of kit, in a turbulent location, rather well (like my server room)

you cant really fault him :)

I agree with Pie eater here. Voted for Jim Kirk but would like to share the vote with JLP as well. He is a fine Captain.

JLP is a real role model. Well in theory.
Did you know that you can buy a management training manual based on his style/manner. I think it's called 'Make it so' or something like that.
Kirk was way too dramatic and undisciplined. Who would make him a captain when all he did was start fights or do the nasty with blue chicks?
Sisko was a bit gay in the first season, but when he shaved his head and grew a goatee, he became my close second.
Janeway? God, I hate her with a passion. A voice like sandpaper and the haircut your wife gets when she doesn't care anymore and it's too late to back out.
Archer had real promise, but alas his time has been cut short. Unfortunately he will always be the quantum leap guy.

Picard on the other hand has it just right. The kind of man with the skills and experience to lead a starship full of people. Manager, Diplomat and General. Never getting too close emotionally (OK, once or twice) and never really losing control (likewise).

The only problem with TNG was things were a little easy. They never really had the problems that the other captains had to deal with. They had carpets. No matter how bad things got, there was a button to fix it, or Geordie had to re-align something and it was fixed.

    Bring on the debate...

I agree johnny, whilst I did follow the adventures of picard for much of my younger life, and did admire his character, I did feel that TNG was just too, unrealistic, the warp kombobulator fixed all problems! :)

Deep Space 9 had that dark cold steel look about it, it was messy, it was grimey, nothing ever worked, and they had the cardassian and dominion fleets on each doorstep!

janeway annoyed me just as much, although I liked Ch'kotay

Supporting Characters probably my faves are Dax and Data no doubt
    although many were wonderful :)

It has to be JLP. Of the only other one I watched, I somehow got the irrepresible urge to stick a fork in Janeway's eye and twist it. My dad never did end up replacing my television :p

Fav supporting characters is an interesting thought, but the poll doesn't allow *that* many options. :blink :biggrin

    Ah, yes the support.
I really liked Reg Barclay. There was something fantastic about such a timid and flawed character in an environment that was so perfect.
My favorite has to be the VG EMH doctor. I really want to be Picard, but when I deal with people I always end up the EMH.

the EMH was the daddy, and after 7-of-9, the only reason to watch Voyager, lol
