    Hi all,
After several years in a dead end job Ive decided to retrain in IT, I have picked up a lot of knowledge over the years but have never been able actually get a qualification in what I know. I have researched through the web and your forums and am still a bit confused over where to start. A friend of mine said I should take an open Uni course in computing or IT, and another said I should do ECDL followed by A+ then go onto Cisco, Msce or N+. Some help please?

Hi and welcome to the forum.

From the courses you mention, I assume you want to follow the networking/administration route?

I would say depending on your knowledge, you might want to skip the ECDL and go for the A+; this will give you a good foundation whichever route you choose.

    Good luck.

    Si

    I concure with Simon!

A+ is the way to go. Most employers prefer experience in the field over qualifications. However having certs and experience in the IT field opens a lot of doors.

The view from my Boss was University degree's are a waste of time, they are not as specialised as A+, N+ or Mircosoft Certs. Plus by the time you've got your degree the industry has changed.8)

Hmmm, your bosses view of uni degrees is somewhat glib.

I don't have one myself but I wish I did.

    Thx for replies people :)

Looks like Ill start on A+ then. Think Ill go the self learn way, just had a look at some of the prices online courses cost, and a local college near me said it would cost me £900 to do it with them.

    Thx again :blink
