change our name to CVOpinions.co.uk? Seems we've been getting a lot of requests for us to look at peoples CVs lately.

I dont so much mind the regulars here asking for advice, we all help each other out, but there are people posting here asking about their CV, and never returning. Thats, in my view, more rude than asking a question and never coming back once they get the reply - at least with the latter theres some inherent benefit to those threads on the site.

If a poster asks for advice and if I can help I will, but it really annoys me if someone joins asks for advice then leaves never to be heard of again.

I would have felt bad to ask for advice on CF then ask for further advice and never participate in the community, but I guess thats just me and the regulars. Everyone else must be ignorant or something.

People should be made aware this is a community so people can give & take advice not just take.

Eh, if someone needs help, I try to give it to them. That said, I do tend to prioritize my responses based to how active you are on the forum. Someone who posts regularly, I'll try to answer immediately; someone who is a first-time poster MIGHT (or might not) get a response.

As I've said before in my Boson Product Tester post: forum membership and participation hath its privileges. 8)

hey, Im not saying about asking for advice in general. thats what the forums about really. I'm just commenting on the number of 'please take a look at my cv' threads started recently. particularly those from unknowns.

Besides, that thread has benefits to anyone considering game programming. its got some sound advice from other people (not that I necessarily agree, but thats a different matter), and a couple of links for details on programming in xna. :biggrin

I don't really care how many times someone posts. If I can help someone I will. That is one of the main reasons I'm here. The way I look at it. This site is for anyone who wants to join. Those that don't particpate are the ones that are losing out. However, that the one person that you did help but never bother to post again, may go on to recomend this site to others {becaused they did get that help they needed} who will stay around and interact with others. One never knows the affect they may have on others and we are not here just to help those that we think are worthy of it.

I wondered about all the first-time posters asking for CV reviews, but I’m still new so I left it alone :)

I don’t mind the first-time posters asking an honest question, but when it seems like a demand, or trying to force an opinion, I get a bit disconcerted. :argue

Then again I’m new so what am I going to say :unsure

I agree with all that's been written above as its very true but on the other hand there are other forms of people posting and not returning on several subject matters.

One I can think of is those people posting I passed xyz and never posting materials they used legit i.e. books and or practice sims etc that they found useful. I have now decided to be selective in reply to certain post on CF and sure we can all adopt that mentality or keep winging:)

In a nutshell it's not just pertaining to CV opinion finders etc, well that's what CF is all about sharing knowledge, help and advice:)
