Not here in the States... I've never heard of it. Perhaps there's a bit of a continental chasm as well!

 

I always thought that Ulysses 31 was a Manga import but what about Battle of the Planets redubbed with Casey KasemD

The Japanese version of battle of the planets was better, faster paced and more violent. THey dumbed it down for us in the UK and US and put some crap robot in it that resembled R2-D2 and Casey Kasem

 

I'm the same, a must be a Scottish thing.

 

Glad to hear someone else has heard of it - I was beginning to think it may be a purely Dundee expression (many of which will be unheard of even in other parts of Scotland!). It just doesn't sound right saying 'vacuum cleaner'.

 

I do indeed mate, that's the correct term - and rolls off the tongue a lot easier! AND it is actually in the Oxford English dictionary - i just had a look - also in online dictionary :

Me too.. a vacuum cleaner is a hoover. period.

 

Hoover in the UK seems to be used as a verb and a noun (or is it a pornoun).

And I always thought that Gasoline was a trade name but (according to that great bastion of truth, Wikipedia) Petrol was a trade name.

Yes another classic, that later was renamed ther Eagles in the UK (but was no way as good as the original)
