I used to be a barman. Sometimes i think of going back to it, life was so much simpler then. Show up, pour beer, drink beer, talk balls with customers, go home.

IT was my first job... although I did game contracted work in game design at the same time.

 

*head in hands thinking "good lord he just said boss"*

 

I quite liked my reach truck.
There was something worrying about lifting down a pallet of cement from the top of the racking and watching the mast swaying backwards and forwards far above you...

Diesel forklift my favorite too. Skidding about the yard on an icy morning.

We also had a weird hybrid thing that bent in the middle so you could get the forks into a tighter space where you'd usually need a reach but when it straightened out it was a regular truck. Never got the hang of that one. It was disconcerting to see the front half of your truck going a different direction to you.

 

I get itchy feet easily

Left college and worked behind a bar, which led to running a bar, which led to restaurants, which led to hotels. Gave all that up to sell health insurance as the hours were better. Gave that up as I grew a concience. Sold chef wear to chefs and then food to schools. And I currently work as a doorman in a gay nightclub on weekends.

My CV is a nightmare to fit onto 3 pages and even worse trying to explain why I never stick at a job.

Now I'm trying to get some IT qualifications to get a job with the MOD.

The career starts soon, honest

 

Writing hasn't lured me away from IT!

 

Before IT, I was an Operations Analyst for a 14-site answering service (all while going to school for my BS in Chemistry).
Before that, I was an Electronic Warfare Signals Intelligence Analyst/Linguist for the United States Army.
Before that, I was a photo lab tech.
Before that, I was a front-gate admissions ticket seller at Opryland USA.
Before that, I was an operator for a credit card company that serviced truckers.
Before that, I was a busboy/dishwasher at Bonanza Steakhouse.
Before that, I mowed lawns.
Before that, I just mooched off Mom and Dad.

 

Please tell me I'm not the only one who read this and laughed

Inland Revenue (Boo Hiss) which spurred me on to leave and go to study higher education and then IT related certs
