What is it like working as a contractor for a recruitment agency?

    Some very odd/incorrect statements in this thread.

    Contractors are not self-employed. They are either employed by an umbrella company or by their own Ltd company.

    Umbrella companies don't save you tax. The only way you can do that is to form your own Ltd company. Opportunities for tax avoidance then becomes almost limitless.

    if you contract you must be prepared to either go months without work, or to do anything to earn money. I spent 6 months as a 3rd line AD analyst. There wasn't anything immediately that finished, so I did some office moves - lying under desks plugging cables into floor ports. But that paid off as I built a good relationship with the client and I am now taking Team Leader roles with them.
